Beach and Bush South African self drive holiday

South Africa is a great destination to visit with kids. A South African Safari is a fantastic way to teach children about nature. I It’s necessary! Enjoy this 14 day South African Road trip which includes different spots around and in the Kruger National Park, Swaziland, Hluhluwe and finishes at the beach near Durban.  A trip to South Africa doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg. Day 1: Arrival at Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport, 1 night

Late arrival in Johannesburg if you arrive with KLM, overnight at the City Lodge OR Tambo which is in walking distance of the arrival terminal and offers very good rooms for reasonable rates.

Day 2 – 3: Great Kruger Park Area, Balule Game Reserve, 2 nights (preferably 3)

2 nights stay in a lovely lodge in the Greater Kruger Park Area in the Balule Game Reserve; inclusive of Dinner, Bed & Breakfast
Explore the area and spot the first animals.

Day 4 – 5: Graskop, Blyde River Canyon, the Panorama Route

On your way to the southern part of the Kruger Park you will have the chance to visit and explore the Blyde River Canyon (God’s Windows, Potholes & 3 Rondavels). The Blyde River Canyon is the 3rd largest canyon in the world

Day 6 – 7: Kruger National Park, Crocodile River, Komatipoort

2 nights, Lovely self catering cottage overlooking the Crocodile River and with a bush shower, Self catering, no meals included
Explore the southern part of the Kruger National park. Buckler’s Africa is recently renovated and family chalets have been added. It is one of the best spots just outside the Kruger Park. you can enjoy the wildlife from your lazy chair, looking out over the Crocodile River which is the border of the Kruger National Park

Day 8 – 9: Swaziland, staying in Swazi Beehive huts with your own bathroom 

2 nights in Mlilwane Wildlife Reserve, Swaziland, inclusive of B&B
Spend the night in lovely authentic beehive huts with ensuite bathrooms. It’s safe to walk around in the park and see zebra, wildebeest and other animals up close and personal while being very quiet….Walking safaris, mountain bikes and a great swimming pool.

Day 10 – 11: Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, the oldest game reserve in South Africa

2 nighst, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi. We recommend the Hluhluwe River Lodge and take your safaris and activities from there. The park allows self drive so you can take your rental car inside the park and do your own safari or book an open jeep safari.

Day 12 – 14: Durban, relax by the beach

3 nights in Durban by the beach. We stayed in the very well located and affordable Blue Waters Hotel which is right by the beach. You can rent bicycles on the promenade and cycle to uShaka Marine World or even to Umhlanga. Durban is a year round sunny destination so perfect to end your holiday and relax before you head home.
