Bluegum Country Estate, about 2 hours drive from Cape Town

Those who know me a little bit, will know that I absolutely love this place. Besides the fact that the location is absolutely beautiful, the staff is super friendly and the food is fantastic, this place just oozes complete relaxation. At Bluegum Country Estate you come home! Every time I drive up the drive way, I just feel my body relax. The area has some lovely wine estates to visit, a beer brewery. A ‘cruise’ on the Stanford Lagoon is great too. Especially when the weather is hot and you can jump in for a refreshing swim.So yes, this is the perfect romantic getaway for Valentine’s Day if you want to take your partner to a beautiful place to relax and eat good food and wine.

Majeka House, Stellenbosch, about 50 minutes drive from Cape Town

If you stay in Cape Town, you don’t need to drive far to find some very special places. The décor at Majeka House will leave you in awe. I would definitely recommend you stay in a pool suite so that you can hop into your private pool (only shared with 1 neighbouring room) straight from your pool and no need to leave you suite. Even more fun to book this with friends couple and have an awesome romantic weekend with friends. The food as Majeka House is to die for. I’m still having dreams about the amazing breakfast buffet. Anything that you can imagine and more you will find on the buffet. Another big ++ of this hotel is the big heated indoors pool. So if you can’t make it for Valentine’s Day, you can always keep it mind for later in the year when it starts to get chilly again. Stay for the weekend and enjoy the heated pool while it is cold outside. Make sure to book your table at Macaron Restaurant in time. This award winning restaurant will not leave you disappointed. I find that a big ++ as well. You don’t need to leave the property for dinner time. You can enjoy all of it without getting into you car. To me that’s true relaxation.

Fordoun Hotel & Spa, about 2 hours drive from Durban

I discovered this beautiful family run 5 star hotel quite some years ago and had the pleasure of visiting a few times. The one thing why you should take your partner here, is to experience the magnificent Spa and the onsite traditional healer, Dr Elliott Ndlovu. He is the inspiration of Fordoun and gives wisdom and healing to the guests of this wonderful 5 star hotel at the food of the majestic Drakensberg. A truly magnificent and unique experience and perfect for a Valentine’s Day Getaway.

Amakhosi Safari lodge, about 5 hours drive from Durban

Is there anything more romantic than taking your partner for a Valentine’s Day Getaway on a Big 5 Safari in a 5 star luxury safari lodge? I don’t think so. I can’t recommend Amakhosi enough. At Amakhosi I had some wonderful safari moments coupled with excellent cuisine, a true sense of hospitality and wonderful chalets with hammocks and private decks from where to watch the wildlife. Maybe one day I will be taken to Amakhosi Safari Lodge on a Valentine’s Day Getaway myself..

Dawsons Game and Trout Lodge – about 4 hours from Johannesburg, Barberton area

Please don’t check out the web site of Dawsons because it is HORRENDOUS. Don’t ask me why they have such a bad web site but I guess that’s why you need people like me who have actually stayed at this place and were totally blown away by literally EVERYTHING!! I took my entire family here in 2013 so we were 8 in total and had the most amazing time. It is such a massive spoil. If you would like to impress your partner with an amazing Valentine’s Day Getaway, this is the deal!

The rooms are like ball rooms, the staff is the friendliest you have encountered and the service is out of this world. We were there in April and it started to get chilly.. Because Dawson Game & Trout Lodge is on a mountain plateau it gets quite cold during the night. When we arrived back into the room after dinner, a bath was filled up, the fire was crackling and we had hot water bottles at the foot end of our beds. It was absolutely divine! The pool area is beautiful and there are nice activities like archery, a game drive and walks up the hill. If I would live in Jo’burg this would definitely be my go-to place if I needed a break from busy city life.

You will find the latest prices HERE so don’t delay. We recommend a 2 or 3 night stay.

Madi a Thavha Mountain Lodge – about 5 hours from Johannesburg (almost in Zimbabwe)

If you’re truly looking for something special, unique, different and fabulous you need to see this place. I love the fact that it is a Fairtrade in Tourism property which supports the entire local community. It is done in a beautiful way by offering high quality food, service and the rooms are just so colourful, it makes you smile instantly. There’s a heritage centre on site where you can learn all about the local artists. The lodge offers a platform to showcase their art and a local guide can take you on a tour in your own car to visit artists in the area. It is definitely one of those experiences that will stay with you for a long time. We loved it and would this place to be a bit closer to home so that we could stay there more often.

Outside of South Africa – Pemba Island off the coast of Tanzania

The Manta Resort, Barefoot Luxury – Pemba Island, small island off Zanzibar

Barefoot luxury at its best, what’s not to love about The Manta Resort? It takes some effort to get there as you will need to fly to Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam first, then fly to Pemba and then a 45 minute road transfer in a 4×4. Buy hey, if you’re a true romantic, this is the REAL DEAL! The Manta Resort offers lovely chalets, garden or sea view, a spa treatment each day (yes all sorted for you) and delicious meals with all locally sourced produce. If you’re looking for a loud resort with large buffets, this is NOT the place for you.

The Manta Resort offers peace, quiet, quality and friendliness. A major draw card for the resort is the under-water room, yes you can stay UNDER WATER! They were planning to build this room when I stayed there so I still have to get back to try this one. It sounds like a wonderful adventure and I can just imagine not sleeping all night and just watching the fish.

They have very good all inclusive packages for Stay 8 days, pay for 6 or stay 5 and pay for 4 (but that’s toooo short).
The diving from the Manta Resort is amazing and we highly recommend you book a diving package if you are an avid diver. And if not, then what about sipping Gin & Tonic on a sunset dhow cruise? I loved every single minute of my stay at The Manta Resort and it is WAY too long ago that I was there but hey, SO many places to visit, SO many things to do!
